Translations received after posting this image on Jewishgen Viewmate site:

1. Here lies
a man of wisdom, respected at the city gate,
knowing the Book and declaring what is right,
fearing God from his young days, blameless and upright
in all his actions. He was our father,
the dear, the Chaver Rabbi Menachem, son of
Kalonimos, syndic and representative [of our congregation], gone
to Heaven at a good old age, the day
5th, 24th, and buried with great honour,
day 1st, 27th Nissan 648, in accordance with the little count.
May his soul be bound in the bundle of life.

2. Here lies
buried a wise man known in the gates,
knows the book and speaks the truth,
God-fearing since his youth,
upright and honest in all of his deeds,
surely he is our beloved father the friend [or member] R' Menachem son of
Reb Kalonymos or Kalonymus ?
rose to the heavens in ripe old age on Thursday 24 [5 April 1888]
and was buried with great honor on Sunday 27 Nisan [8 April] 5648
by the abbreviated era May his soul be bound in the bond of life.

3. PN A wise man respected at the gates
He knows books and speaks wisdoms
A fearer of G-D since his boyhood decent and honest in all his deeds
the great Rabbi our dear father the scholar Menachem
son of Kalonymos PI"M [?] went up to heavens in old age on
thursday the 24th and was buried with great honour on Sunday Nissan 27th 5645 TNZVA

4. A wise and well known man, learned and truthful, feared G-d from his
youth, honest and upright in all his dealings, no other than our dear
father, the member (friend), Rabi [not Rabbi, DL] Menachem son of
Klonimus Pissi (Fissi, Fisi, Pisi, Pihi, Fihi???--hard to tell) was
called to heaven at a goodly age Thursday 24 of Nissan and was buried
with great honor on Sunday 27 of Nissan 5645 (1885)

Notes on the translations:
· They can't even agree on a date (1888 was 5648, so I suspect that is the correct date, but 27 Nissan was a Sunday in both years)
· Two say he was a Rabbi, one expressly says he was not (so what's a Rabi?).
· In English, “knows books” has a very different connotation than “knows the Book.”

Original Text:

Glaubensgenossen in Preußen.

English Translation:

An article in "Allgemeinen Zeitung des Judentums" (General Newspaper of Judaism), April 26,
1888:

Bonn, 22. April (notes). Written in Baumholder, April 8th. Today the remains of the
departed in God, Mr. Emanuel Culmann, were laid to rest. The impressive funeral
demonstrated how the deceased was honored and respected within the community. All the
inhabitants of the city, including Catholic and Protestant ministers, as well as the mayor
and many officials attended. The deceased, who enjoyed a high social standing, and a wisdom
in both religious and literary subjects, was knowledgeable and furthered Jewish literature,
and actively fought, both orally and in writing, for the emancipation of our co-
religionists in Prussia. He set a good example in his business dealings: legal and honest,
independent and candid, working effectively for the rights of the oppressed. He had the
gift to speak and write well on popular subjects, because over 60 years ago, before higher
education was universally accepted, he attended the secondary school in Trier, and
continued self study for his own satisfaction into his senior years. He furthered the
religious interests of the Jewish community with the rebuilding of the synagogue, which
came about primarily through his self sacrificing efforts. On April 5th, after a long
suffering illness, he passed on at the age of 74-1/2 years. At the funeral on the 8th of
this month his nephew, Dr. Blumenstein, Rabbi of Luxembourg, prior to going to the
cemetery, which is 1-1/2 hours away, gave a eulogy at the home of the deceased. He quoted
the words of the psalm: "You were an example to all mankind, words of wisdom flowed over
your lips, that is why God blessed you for all eternity." With this the speaker developed
an interesting life and character study, in which he extolled the virtues of the deceased.
During the speech as well as the rest of the ceremony, a hush fell over the multitude that
attended, many of whom accompanied the funeral procession a substantial distance. Lastly
the deceased had designated several institutions in his will, such as the Alliance in
Paris, the Paderborner orphanage and the teacher seminar in Muenster, and directed his
children to remain true to their religion and heed the teachings of our great religious
scholars.
