US GenWeb archives at http://files.usgwarchives.org/al/clay/cemeteries/macedon.txt lists: Harris, Henry Gaither 2nd CPL Com E 42 Ga. Inf. Confederate States Army Mar. 24, 1843 - April 22, 1930 From "Compiled Service Records of Confederate Soldiers Who Served in Organizations from the State of Georgia," we can piece together a brief outline of Henry's experiences in the Civil War: He volunteered as a private on March 4, 1862, in Covington, Georgia, with Company E of Georgia's 42nd Infantry Regiment, under Captain J. Mercer, and was paid a bounty of $50.00. A few weeks later (April 15th), he was reported on indefinite sick leave in Newton County. On March 16, 1863 he was elected Corporal. After the surrender at Vicksburg, he was paroled, along with the rest of the regiment. He was captured on March 10, 1865 near Kinston, North Carolina, and imprisoned at Point Lookout, Maryland, for the remainder of the war. He was released on June 27, 1865, after signing an Oath of Allegiance to the United States. He is described as five feet, eight inches tall, with gray eyes and light brown hair.
