Notes: Discussion about the mother of Joseph Hoops Biles Stackhouse: - Josewph's death certificate lists mother as Lilllie Biles. I have not found any other records mentioning Lillie Biles or Lillie Stackhouse. There is an Elizabeth Biles, age 30, in Lancaster county, in 1870 - 1880 and 1900 lists John Stackhouse married to a "Sarah" - 1900 census lists years married for John and Sarah as 27. That same year, Joseph is listed as 27 years old. - In 1900, Sarah Stackhouse reports 3 children, all living. Likely Elsworth Biles (listed as John's step-son), Dillwin, and Blanche. This implies that Joseph is not her son (and that Lillie might have been a first wife for John) So there are several possibilities: 1. Lillie is Sarah, and she should have reported 4 children in 1900 (or she excluded Elsworth, as he was not John's son). Perhaps Joseph was conceived before marriage. 2. Lillie was John's first wife, dying at or shortly after Joseph's birth. John then married Sarah Biles (perhaps a cousin of Lillies?) Additional Pictures: (click to enlarge)
